Unlike many of the sites I worked on at BU, the Graduate Portal was 100% from scratch. Content Development started with a discovery process that included interviews and focus groups with administration, faculty and students. Discovery led to a site architecture and proposed content. I managed a team of 3 writers and strategists to quickly research and create all site content for the start of the academic year. But our biggest accomplishment was working with the Graduate Provost's office to collect and wrangle programs descriptions and metadata for 400+ programs. While the registrar maintains program descriptions, we supervised dozens authors creating marketing and search-friendly copy to boost SEO.
Graduate Education Portal
Grad School at Boston University is a decentralized organization, meaning each department - sometimes each program! - has it's own administration, policies and admissions requirements. There's nothing wrong with that, academically, but it's awfully difficult to market a loose collection of anything. Our goal was to create a central landing spot for both prospective students seeking BU programs, and current graduate students who missed a sense of community identity and clear paths to central resources.
